Lawn Care Guide for Year-Round Lawn Excellence

  • Maintaining a stunning lawn throughout the year is easier than you think. Our monthly lawn care calendar is tailored to the UK climate, ensuring your lawn looks its absolute best. When you choose OB Gardening on an annual plan, you not only save money but also gain a clear understanding of how we’ll keep your lawn in top shape year-round.

January Lawn Care:

January brings chilly weather and frost. Be cautious walking on your lawn in these conditions, as it can lead to puddles and grass bruising. Fear not, as come April, we’ll remedy compaction and puddling with aeration.

February Lawn Care:

Mild, dry weather in February prompts us to inspect your lawn. If it feels spongy, moss or thatch may be the culprits. We’ll treat them to promote healthy grass growth. Weeds are also a concern, and treatment begins in April.

March Lawn Care:

Spring is on the horizon, but it’s not time for treatments yet. Unpredictable weather can hinder growth and wash away products. Sowing grass seed is best left for later in March when the soil warms up.

April Lawn Care:

With spring in full swing, it’s time to kick start your lawn’s care routine:

  • Tackle weeds and moss with appropriate treatments.
  • Rake out dead moss.
  • Prepare areas for grass seed.
  • Mow the growing grass.
  • Keep newly seeded areas moist for strong root growth.

May Lawn Care:

If April was cold, May is ideal for sowing grass seed and patch repair. Regular mowing and edge maintenance continue. Keep up with feeding and weed treatment, but wait a few weeks for new lawns.

June Lawn Care:

Summer means frequent mowing, adjusting the height based on lawn type and weather. Be mindful of scorching in hot, dry weather: Water in the early morning or late evening.

July Lawn Care:

Consider reapplying weed and moss treatments if necessary. Watering, spiking, and maintenance continue, but remember, certain products can only be used twice a year.

August Lawn Care:

In dry conditions, use a soluble or liquid feed. Gradually mow long grass to avoid scorching. We continue cutting and watering, maintaining the lawn’s appearance.

September Lawn Care:

Early September is perfect for lawn repair. Seed bare patches after spiking, ensuring good soil preparation. For turf, spike, level, and keep it moist until established. Mow, feed for autumn, and address moss.

October Lawn Care:

Sow seeds if you missed September. Keep your lawn free from fallen leaves and fruit. Weather permitting, treatments and mowing can continue.

November Lawn Care:

Feed your lawn before winter arrives. Mowing is optional, depending on mild weather. Removing leaves is crucial for lawn health.

December Lawn Care:

During frosty or wet weather, avoid walking on the lawn. Stick to the paths for safety.

OB Gardening keeps lawns vibrant and healthy throughout the year. Our expert care ensures a lush, green space to enjoy in every season.
